Revive! Slough – Two Years On

Revive! Slough Kyle Thorburn car repair franchise owner

Living Revive!’s core values of Integrity, Outstanding Customer Service, Technical Excellence and Unity are the key to the ongoing success of Revive! Slough.

Owner Kyle Thorburn launched Revive! Slough just two years ago following redundancy and hasn’t looked back since with three vans now on the road.  Thanks to an intensive digital marketing campaign and the determination to give only the very best quality and service to their customers, so far this year the business is already over 50% up on 2022’s figures.

Explained Kyle: “Market presence has played a big part. We’ve invested quite a bit of money into marketing and advertising but also worked hard to make sure our customers are happy with what we do to keep up the 5-star Trustpilot and Google reviews.  It’s all about honesty and integrity. “

“The business is growing year on year. The more jobs you do the more people know about you, and the more people that know about you the more they talk about you and if you get it right, word keeps spreading.  We were aiming for a 20% growth this year, so to be sitting at 57% right now is pretty good.”

Following the Revive!  40/40/20 sales model, retail work and trade work each account for 40% of his turnover, whilst national account work makes up the remaining 20%. Over 30% of Revive! Slough’s retail business comes from word of mouth and repeat business with a local family booking up almost every month to have an alloy repaired on one of their cars!

In recruiting his technicians he made sure they already had a background in customer service. “So it’s just been fine tuning what they do and how they do it,” he said.

Being part of the Revive! ‘family’ has also played its part over the past two years. Said Kyle: “The service provided on a month to month basis by Revive! head office is good and I’ve also built a support network with neighbouring franchisees in Uxbridge, Staines, High Wycombe and Woking. We speak on a regular basis to support and encourage each other – it can get lonely sometimes as a business owner.”

No stranger to franchising, Kyle and his wife Joanne ran a thriving travel franchise in South Africa before re-locating to the UK with their family ten years ago when Joanne set up a Travel Counsellor franchise and Kyle worked  as a regional sales manager for waste management company, BIFFA. When COVID hit, Kyle was furloughed and then made redundant, giving him both the finance and opportunity to once again be his own boss. He explained: “The whole Covid thing highlighted the vulnerability of working for someone else. There’s no security for your future. I appreciate that redundancy is hard for many people but for me it meant freedom, some extra cash and the chance to get back on a familiar path.”

Research led Kyle to Revive! as a franchise that could offer plenty of opportunity for growth.

And Revive! Slough has certainly delivered that!  Reporting record month after record month, Kyle is driving his business forward with plans to grow even further by adding  two more vans next year and buying a workshop unit in 2025.
