Matt West was a relative late comer to franchising, having spent 25 years in the financial world as an accountant. But after having an epiphany and realising that it wasn’t the thing he wanted to do with his life he decided to explore what other opportunities were out there, specifically buying a business. That was when he came across Revive!.
One of the main things Matt appreciated about Revive!’s approach to franchising was that rather than being a man in a van working for himself, it was a management franchise opportunity, allowing him to step back from being out on the road and spraying cars to a position where he could guide his employees on their day-to-day operations. Ultimately he was looking for a lifestyle that offered more flexibility, having worked away from home for a long time with long hours and working abroad “it’ll be nice to be around more and have the freedom to do that”
While Matt understood the capabilities of Revive! technicians, he was also aware that he didn’t have the required skillset to reach that standard.
Matt was first attracted to the franchising sector due to the sheer amount of support on offer, not only from the franchisor, but the other franchisees also, whereas in other businesses they may have been seen as competition in the franchising sector and specifically within Revive! they were simply forebearers who have gone through the challenges your facing and could highlight them ahead of time meaning you could then limit the effect on your own business.
Revive!’s strong reputation within the sector drew his respect with the numerous awards wins showcasing the quality offering that Revive! could provide him. “Everyone is accessible and so helpful, so any questions I have are answered quickly”. With the company values of Integrity, Outstanding Customer Service, Unity and technical excellence it would be easy for them to simply be posters on a wall, but everyone in the company really lives and breathes the company values, making Revive! a really welcoming and supportive institution to be a part of.
The ability to have training either in person or online meant that it was accessible to Matt anywhere and he could go over it again in the future, should he feel the need. He found the most helpful part of the training was being able to sit with the UK retail team as they went through live quotes and learned how to understand the actual damage on a car.
Matt’s short term targets are to get from two to three vans in the next year then to four or five vans in the next 3-4 years. He is looking to hit the big monetary figures like other successful Revive! franchisees, £500,000 – £1m – £2m. His opinion is the other franchisees are doing it so ‘I’d like to do the same’.
When asked if he had any advice for anyone considering franchising Matt responded: “If you’re looking at franchising, look at Revive! I can’t see that there’s anything to lose. They have Franchisees going for over 20 years which is clear evidence of that enjoyment in business ownership and has brought a better standard of living to the franchisees. All franchisees say the same thing, it’s hard to start with, but ultimately it’s very rewarding”
